Essential Homeschooling - Sherri Linsenbach
ISBN: 1-59869-130-9 Adams Media, 2006 F+W Publications Inc.
Pg. 3--A Brief History Lesson--Modern Homeschooling: "The number of homeschooled children continues to increase rapidly. More parents are homeschooling because they feel they are best able to pass morals and value systems on to their children, and because they believe they have more time for their child, as well as a better understanding of their child’s educational needs."
Pg. 34--Legal Requirements: “Some states require homeschools to operate similar to private schools. Some ask to see an outline of your educational goals, and others require that a form be filled out and submitted to your superintendent’s office. Some states require that a certified teacher observe your child’s progress periodically, some require you to keep a portfolio of schoolwork and still others require standardized testing. Most states offer two options, so that you can abide by the law that will work best in your family. In some states, for instance you may have the option of establishing a home school operating as a private school or using a private tutor. You may opt to have your child’s progress evaluated by a certified teacher, have your child take a national standardized test, or participate in testing on a local level.”
